TSLoD and the Walpole Historical Society Join Forces: Summer 2019!!

Where does the time go? It’s been over a year since my last podcast was finished and posted. I’ve been fighting lyme disease this past year, so I’ve been out of the history nerd loop but I am back.

So, when’s the next big thing from TSLoD, you ask? How about …. NOW! We’ve got a couple of things coming up this summer thanks to the generous and enthusiastic support and help from Christie Winmill and Andrea Goins at the Walpole Historical Society. We are partnering to put on an exhibit that will run throughout the summer of 2019 titled “Life in The Valley, ca. 1919”. This exhibit is an offshoot of TSLoD Ep 2: Graffiti, the one that talks about the history of the Dodge Tavern and the gravestone found in the cellar. I accumulated a lot of extras in the research for that and one of the wonderful bits was the diary of Roxanna MacNutt Thompson for the year 1919. Roxanna was a life long resident of The Valley and we thought that this is the 100 year anniversary of her diary, it would be interesting to showcase what life was like in that part of Walpole back in the day.

The exhibit will run from May 31 - Sept 1, 2019 at the Walpole Historical Society (32 Main Street, Walpole NH) which is open every Saturday from noon - 4pm. For more information about the WHS, check out their website http://www.walpolehistory.com/ . We also have a FB page announcing the exhibit https://www.facebook.com/events/589237448253941/ .

One more thing. The WHS is hosting another live showing of TSLoD podcast upon which all of this was based, Ep 2: Graffiti, on June 7th, 2019 at 7 pm at the Walpole Town Hall (34 Elm Street, Walpole NH). The slideshow is about the wider history of The Valley and includes information about the MacNutts and Thompsons and excerpts from Roxanna’s diary. For information and updates, check out the FB page for that event https://www.facebook.com/events/459582108146934/ .

I will be there to open the slideshow and take questions afterward, so please, save your rotten tomatoes until the end ;)

Hope to see you there!!

TSLoD Takes the Show ON THE ROAD!

Podcasts are great. You can listen to them anytime, anywhere. Sort of like the old infomercial trope,  "enjoy it in the car, in the bath or with friends". But, there are times when more than just a few people want to enjoy the lessons of a podcast and inviting 25 friends or colleagues to a shower stall to listen to a podcast might be a tad awkward.  (You learn that one the hard way, let me tell you.) So now, TSLoD is offering live talks and presentations! Check out the options on the ON THE ROAD tab and choose from one of three presentation topics!

Episode 2: Graffiti is here!!!

It has finally come to pass! The looooooooong awaited (and by that, I mean, I've been annoyed people for over a year about this new episode being ALMOST ready) but now, it is! Go to the Episode 2 page and enjoy the two-parter episode for Graffiti, which walks you through the history of The Dodge Tavern, in Walpole, NH, a long lost gravestone and the many families and events that happened under that roof. Technically, we should consider them TWO roofs, which is partly semantics and partly a very dorky joke...which you will most certainly get, once you've listened to the show!!

Thanks for your patience! I hope you'll think it is worth the wait!

Episode 2: Graffiti Premier! April 29, 2018!!!

Join us for the live premier of Episode 2: Graffiti, April 29, 2018!

The SLOD is joining forces with Stage 33 Live in a winner-take-all, cross promotional extravaganza! Please come down to 33 Bridge Street, Bellows Falls, VT on Sunday, April 29 2018, 6 pm, for a live showing of Episode 2: Graffiti.

More information about this premier can be found on Stage 33 Live's Facebook page and via the Stage 33 Live page for this show.

Now you may be asking, Gail, how can I watch a podcast? Good question.  Here's a good answer: I've put together a slideshow of historic pictures and maps to accompany the podcast. So the live version ends up playing more like a movie (and runs about 80 minutes) and you sit with other people to watch for that communal experience. I'll be there to introduce the show, take questions after, as well as some of the voice actors and experts that lent their talents to the episode.

If you can't make the live show, don't worry, the slideshow and an audio-only version of the episode will be made available on this website after the premier!

Mark you calendars and as I like to say, "Be there AND square!" Because history nerds rule.

Open for business!

Welcome to the NEWS page for TSLoD! The latest news is that, hey, my website is finally done and you can find this podcast I've been blathering on about for a year!

Episode 1: Epidemic, is up and running, complete with annotated photos. Episode 2: Graffiti and Episode 3: Captive, are currently in post-production, which is just fancy insider lingo that means "I've gotten most of the crap done but need to find 15 hours to finish editing the blasted thing". They are coming soon but I do have the synopses and some photos for each to give you a taste.

As for this page: my plan is to use this page to post a selection of  "Q & A's" or "FAQ's" type forum. This is assuming people will have questions or comments, let alone that they might be frequent. Never hurts to be prepared, right?

So check back and see what puts the NEW in NEWS! Also, will be getting that social media up and running as well.
