Where does the time go? It’s been over a year since my last podcast was finished and posted. I’ve been fighting lyme disease this past year, so I’ve been out of the history nerd loop but I am back.
So, when’s the next big thing from TSLoD, you ask? How about …. NOW! We’ve got a couple of things coming up this summer thanks to the generous and enthusiastic support and help from Christie Winmill and Andrea Goins at the Walpole Historical Society. We are partnering to put on an exhibit that will run throughout the summer of 2019 titled “Life in The Valley, ca. 1919”. This exhibit is an offshoot of TSLoD Ep 2: Graffiti, the one that talks about the history of the Dodge Tavern and the gravestone found in the cellar. I accumulated a lot of extras in the research for that and one of the wonderful bits was the diary of Roxanna MacNutt Thompson for the year 1919. Roxanna was a life long resident of The Valley and we thought that this is the 100 year anniversary of her diary, it would be interesting to showcase what life was like in that part of Walpole back in the day.
The exhibit will run from May 31 - Sept 1, 2019 at the Walpole Historical Society (32 Main Street, Walpole NH) which is open every Saturday from noon - 4pm. For more information about the WHS, check out their website http://www.walpolehistory.com/ . We also have a FB page announcing the exhibit https://www.facebook.com/events/589237448253941/ .
One more thing. The WHS is hosting another live showing of TSLoD podcast upon which all of this was based, Ep 2: Graffiti, on June 7th, 2019 at 7 pm at the Walpole Town Hall (34 Elm Street, Walpole NH). The slideshow is about the wider history of The Valley and includes information about the MacNutts and Thompsons and excerpts from Roxanna’s diary. For information and updates, check out the FB page for that event https://www.facebook.com/events/459582108146934/ .
I will be there to open the slideshow and take questions afterward, so please, save your rotten tomatoes until the end ;)
Hope to see you there!!
